Baby Cribs: Convenience and Safety For Your Little One

Many people don’t realize that the material used to create baby cribs may pose a serious health risk to your newborn. Popular baby cribs are made to be very modern and stylish, but not every styles are completely safe. In addition, crib manufacturers often add certain chemicals and other finishing details that can be harmful to babies.

One of the newest worries regarding crib safety is convertible baby cribs. Convertible baby cribs convert from a standard crib into a bed and into a toddler bed in one simple step. However, many parents are still concerned about safety, and many state consumer agencies have banned the use of convertible cribs altogether.

Baby Cribs

The conversion kit for a standard baby crib has no safety standards whatsoever, according to the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA). While the JPMA does not recommend the use of a converted crib, they do list the dangers of using them as an infant. Some of these dangers include suffocation, entanglement and strangulation. Using a crib with a convertible feature should be avoided at all costs. Not only because convertible baby cribs present a real risk of injury, but because the state safety standards for cribs are not being met.

Convertible baby cribs were originally created to allow a child to grow into a toddler bed without having to use the same bed or the same room. Kids are active individuals and will typically spend several hours per day sleeping, which means that a convertible crib provides an opportunity for your little one to grow up into a healthy adult. The bed can be converted into a toddler bed by using two fingers and one hand. The process is simple. Simply grab the bottom edge of the crib with your two fingers and pull it down until it locks in place beneath the mattress.

Another reviewer says that the convertible aspect of the Baby Crib from Chicco is probably its biggest selling point. It also claims to be very easy to assemble. However, this is not exactly how it works. When you put the cover on the crib, it’s not the case that simply removing the crib mattress by unfastening the ties and pulling off the fasteners will do the trick.

First, you must secure the two pieces of the crib mattress with ties and secure them with slats of greensward gold certified high quality plastic. Once you have done so, you can then proceed to lock the slats of plastic together. This is done by pushing the plastic slats into each other using the tied-in string. Afterward, you can secure them using the two ropes on either end of the baby crib.

One more thing that should be noted about this type of stroller is that it does not convert into a daybed. The reason why this is the case is because the weight of the baby would cause the daybed to sink. If this happens, the delta style of stroller could no longer sustain the weight. Plus, the delta style of stroller is much heavier than the traditional ones.

Finally, there is the most important feature of all when it comes to baby cribs. The changing table. You need to take note that while the strollers may look like they have a small table, the truth is that the height of the table is actually very crucial. This is because you have to reach out for your little one every time you want to change his or her diapers. This poses a very unhealthy position for the child. Therefore, the best model that you can find is the changing table that doubles as a diaper holder.

So, are you convinced? Well, if you are, then you can go ahead and purchase one of these strollers. However, be mindful that as with anything in life, you get what you pay for. While these standard cribs can last for years, if you think you can do better, then you should go ahead and purchase the sturdier models.
